- To provide professional education programs on AI to 1,200 employees
- To train employees as experts on demand for AI research, serving as a foundation for creating new business areas
- To develop deep learning algorithms for emotion recognition from facial expression during the course
- To expand the curriculum for the development of new business areas such as blockchain, big data, and augmented reality / virtual reality (AR/VR)

[CJ OliveNetworks, Wed. Dec. 11, 2019] CJ OliveNetworks trains and cultivates AI experts, seeking ways to expand its future businesses by improving its employees’ technical competence in AI.

The company has built the blockchain/AI-based digital copyright system and introduced AI-based facial recognition access control systems to CJ group affiliates. It has also developed the technology that recognizes human movements from TV shows to create video clips automatically using a non?data-based teaching method.

Emphasizing the importance of AI as a new growth engine for the next generation, CJ OliveNetworks offered educational opportunities to its employees since May and successfully trained some of them as AI experts through the six-month curriculum.

The company launched the “AI Academy” composed of four levels from Introductory, Basic, and Intensive, to Expert available to all 1,200 staff, including regular employees, executives, to technical employees, and those working in the management support division, including legal and financial affairs, HR, and PR. They finished each course after passing the tests.

The four courses included Introductory: Python, a programming language, and the basic concept of algorithms; Basic: Web crawler, data analysis, and machine learning; Intensive: Deep learning frameworks and algorithms for image recognition and language detection; and Expert: Tensor Flow, an open-source software, to develop deep learning and services.

The 10 experts who completed the Expert course developed the image classification using the convolutional neural network, most commonly applied to analyzing visual imagery. They also developed a deep learning?based algorithm available to recognize sex, age, and emotions from facial expressions by connecting an emotion recognition model with a webcam in real time.

Those specialists include the staff of different positions from regular employees and assistant managers to general managers, and some of them are not professional developers. The program serves two ends, given that it has expanded learning opportunities to employees and cultivated AI experts.

CJ OliveNetworks will relocate those 10 staff to AI-related tasks and projects, where they can demonstrate their knowledge and expertise.

The company will initiate more education programs to develop new businesses in addition to AI, such as blockchain, big data, and AR/VR, to help support its employees gain knowledge and grow as IT professionals.
