- An MOU with Cognex Corporation, an AI machine vision developer, has been signed to strengthen Smart Factory Solution capabilities.
- AI solution technical support for 2D and 3D vision cameras from Cognex Corporation will be integrated into equipment.
- Product images will be collected to detect defects and identify products, leading to an improved defect identification rate in visual inspections.

[CJ OliveNetworks = December 21, 2020 (Mon)] CJ OliveNetworks (CEO Cha In-Hyeok) will integrate AI machine vision features into the Smart Factory Solution, which comprises its automated factory, to enhance its composition and functionality.

On December 21, the company announced that it had signed an MOU with Cognex Corporation (Asian Regional CEO Mun Eung-Jin), a global manufacturer that develops AI machine vision sensors, deep learning software, and bar-code readers.

In particular, Cognex is a global leader in the machine vision field listed on NASDAQ and has been producing more than two million machine vision?based products since its establishment in 1981.

AI machine vision is a kind of technology that combines hardware and software and collects images through the digital sensors on industrial cameras equipped with special optical devices to identify product defects.

Through this MOU, CJ OliveNetworks was supplied with various vision equipment, including Cognex’s 2D and 3D vision cameras and image-based bar-code readers. Through these devices, it will develop AI solution technologies, such as image data analysis and AI modeling. With this, CJ OliveNetworks will be able to develop unique AI vision inspection technology through Smart Factory, thereby providing more integrated services to clients.

In particular, inspection tasks, such as defect inspection, product identification, and date of manufacture inspection, which were previously visually conducted, will be substituted with AI machine vision. As such, product defect rates are expected to improve, and process efficiency will be enhanced.

Similarly, last May, CJ OliveNetworks had strengthened its hardware capability through an MOU with Russell Automation, an automation equipment manufacturer, and through the collaboration with Cognex, it plans to expand its businesses abroad with an additional AI machine vision capacity that will offer an optimal total solution.

“We are enhancing the competence of our unique technologies by introducing automation equipment and AI machine vision to the Smart Factory Solution,” said CJ OliveNetworks CEO Cha In-Hyeok. “With that, we can provide our clients with an integrated service through our partnership with global corporations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) while realizing the social value of mutual growth with our partners and clients,” he continued.

Having participated in the Smart Factory dissemination project, which was part of the government’s Korean New Deal, CJ OliveNetworks proactively promoted the Smart Factory business with a focus on food manufacturing businesses and the enhanced competitiveness of SMEs for food processing.

Furthermore, it is expected to contribute to future Green New Deals through the reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gases at manufacturing sites, which will be made possible by the realization of the Internet of things?based, real-time energy monitoring solutions.
