- The Ministry of Science and ICT has authorized CJ OliveNetworks to launch an e-UM 5G business to advance wireless network operations for Korean companies.

- Communication with super high speed, low latency, and high density will accelerate large-scale traffic handling and the shift to robotics.

- Innovations in the entertainment and media industries, including live streaming, tangible customer service and video editing, are expected.

CJ OliveNetworks, led by CEO Cha In Hyok, has been officially authorized by the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT to be assigned a frequency for a specialized 5G mobile communication network and be newly registered as a key telecommunications business operator. The company is now launching an “e-UM 5G” business.

e-UM 5G is a specialized 5G network for offices, factories, and infrastructure required for business. A company that operates a 5G specialized network does not have to go through a telecommunication company to be granted frequency and build its own 5G network.

CJ OliveNetworks will demonstrate the performance of e-UM 5G in its data center located in Songdo, Incheon City, in October and provide a wireless network for business use to subsidiaries of CJ Group and external industrial sites.

The company is planning to create a market for e-UM 5G, especially in the industries that CJ OliveNetworks is focusing on, such as smart logistics, entertainment, and media, to differentiate itself from its competitors.

In the field of smart logistics, the strengths of the 5G network ? super-high speed, super-low latency, and super-high density ? will be utilized to increase scalability and the wireless connectivity of robots, as well as to drive logistics innovation of big data utilization, automated sortation, AI-based physical security, and traffic control.

For the entertainment and media businesses, the 5G network can support high-resolution live drone streaming, big-data-based digital signage, hologram concerts or tangible AR/VR-based real-time services to bring about extensive innovation to customer experience.

In addition, high-resolution video data filmed at movie or drama studios can be simultaneously transferred to an editing system to reduce risk of loss during transfer and save time, innovating large-scale content logistics as well.

“We recognize the need for the e-UM 5G network in digital transformation and the shift towards robotics for both internal and external businesses, which is why we decided to lead this new venture,” said Cha In Hyok, CEO of CJ OliveNetworks. “We look forward to seeing not only logistics and media innovation, but also extensive business innovation resulting from the combination of 5G and AI, metaverse, big data, and other cutting-edge technologies,” he added.
