CJ OliveNetworks signed a strategic business agreement with Gyeongsangbuk-do for the successful creation of an airport economic zone and new airport city which are linked to Daegu Gyeongbuk Airport.

Daegu Gyeongbuk Airport, scheduled to open in 2030, is Korea's first civilian-military joint relocation project that will simultaneously relocate K-2 Military Airport and Daegu International Airport and will be built on a 16.9km2 area (5.11 million pyeong) in Uiseong-gun and Gunwi-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Gyeongsangbuk-do is also planning to create a new city where 15,000 people, including military personnel and their families, will reside on a 3.3 million m2 (1 million pyeong) site in Uiseong, adjacent to the airport. The new airport city includes 4 regions such as the smart aviation logistics complex to function as a logistics and industrial hub in the central and southern region, aviation industry cluster, agricultural food industry cluster, and a mobility-specialized city (M-City) that combines cutting-edge technologies such as information and communication technology (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Based on this agreement, CJ OliveNetworks and Gyeongsangbuk-do will cooperate with each other to successfully create a new airport city and an industrial complex that are linked to Daegu Gyeongbuk Airport.

Details of cooperation include ▲provision of living and cultural services and ICT infrastructure services in the airport-type smart city, ▲support for space design and content convergence with IT new technology in the new airport city, ▲cooperation in the field of smart manufacturing and logistics in the aviation logistics and aviation maintenance industrial complex, and ▲creation of an agricultural and food industry cluster.

In addition, CJ OliveNetworks supports the creation of a digital convergence culture and arts space in the Uiseong Tourism and Culture Complex (Uiseong Land) and is also working to reduce educational gaps between regions by operating ‘CJ SW Creative Camp’ training, etc. to help students in Uiseong-gun grow into AI talents.

"We plan to participate in the construction project for building a new airport city and an industrial complex which is executed by Gyeongsangbuk-do based on CJ OliveNetworks’ new DX and data technologies,” said Yoo In-sang, CEO of CJ OliveNetworks. “We will closely cooperate with Gyeongsangbuk-do, including building ICT infrastructure in the airport-type smart city and supporting a smart manufacturing and logistics system in the industrial complex.”

“The global trend is that when an airport is built, high-tech industrial ecosystems for businesses and logistics will be advanced around the airport, developing into an airport economic zone which is a manufacturing hub for the global business," said the Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo. “We plan to incorporate the know-how of companies in Uiseong Airport New City from the planning stage and build it as a key base city for the airport economic zone that will extend beyond Daegu and Gyeongbuk and into the world.”
