CJ OliveNetworks opens the 2nd research center for the growth of the AI industry in Gwangju

-The 2nd research center CJ Lucidus AI Lab was established to help the growth in the AI industry in Gwangju and strengthen CJ OliveNetworks' R&D competitiveness  

-The center will support the growth of the AI industry through joint research with professors at GIST, internships, and creating local jobs 

-The company received a membership certification for the Youth Employment Support Project from the Ministry of Employment and Labor

 

 

[CJ OliveNetworks, September 1, 2021] CJ OliveNetworks (CEO Cha In-hyeok) opened the 2nd research center in Gwangju tosupport the growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry in Gwangju and strengthen its R&D competitiveness.

The name of CJ OliveNetworks' second laboratory is “CJ Lucidus AI Lab.” Lucidus means bright or shining in Latin. It was named as such in hopes of becoming the brightly shining research center in the city of light,Gwangju. It is located in the Industry-Academic Cooperation Building in the GIST. 

 

In April, CJ OliveNetworks signed a business agreement with Gwangju City and GIST to foster the artificial intelligence industry. 

 

The second research institute will also be part of a three-party business agreement between the public, private and academia. The three parties will work together for the development of the local AI industry by participating in K-Digital Training, a project led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor to nurture talent in the new digital technology fields.

 

Prior to the opening ceremony, CJ OliveNetworks established a public-private-academic partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Labor and GIST for a successful K-digital training project. They will work together to create jobs for young people and spread a sound hiring culture. 

 

On the opening day, CJ OliveNetworks also received the membership certificate for youth employment support project from the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

The 2nd research center’s signboard ceremony held on August 31st was attended by major officials including the Vice Minister of Employment and Labor Park Hwa-jin, acting president of GIST SongJong-in and CJ OliveNetworks CEO Cha In-hyeok 

 

With the launch of the second research center, CJ OliveNetworks is ready to strengthen its AI technology research and business competitiveness. It will begin research on AI source technology together with professors at the GIST AI graduate school. 

 

It will also offer a K-Digital training course and internship opportunities and hire AI R&D talent in Gwangju.

 

“The GIST has excellent educational and research capabilities, and CJ OliveNetworks is a backbone in CJ Group’s AI business.Together, we will create synergy for the AI industry and academia with the second research center. We will work together to nurture talent and create jobs to innovate the artificial intelligence industry,” said Song Jong-in, acting president of Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology. 

 

“I believe that nurturing local talent and developing the AI industry are directly related to improving national competitiveness. We will help creating local jobs through internships and AI field recruitment while doing research on the AI technology,” said Cha In hyeok,CEO of CJ OliveNetworks.   

 

 

CJ OliveNetworks also has the DT Research Center at its headquarters. The center is dedicated to research on future technologies and services such as AI, block chain, big data, and cloud. It includes the AI Core research center that works on original technology and the AI-DT research center that works on technology commercialization.
